About Us

Winglow began life over three decades ago as a single sewing machine and a vision for creating modern African fashion.

Over the years we have grown organically to have 24 permanent staff and a host of professional grade industrial machines for every aspect of the design and production process.

We now have a flourishing factory in Accra with space to expand, but we have not lost sight of our vision. We create classic African wear and Western style clothes, but our signature style blends elements of both. With an emphasis on creating garments that you can wear for years to come, we have never lost our passion for unique, quality clothes that make our customers feel beautiful and confident.

Whether it’s clothes for weddings, dresses for important meetings, or a fun outfit for a summer party, Winglow has been dressing our customers for important life events for a generation.

Ethical Fashion

Our values dictate that as we have grown, we have grown ethically.

We are concerned with our impact on the environment, and so we take measures to recycle and use sustainable practices in our garment production process. Around 60% of our fabrics are made from renewable sources and natural fibres, and we source the majority of our materials from local markets here in Accra.

As a female-led company, ensuring that our predominantly female workforce is paid fairly for their work is very important to us. It is no secret that living below the poverty line is detrimental to the health of our communities, and at Winglow, we want to make sure that our employees are able to work their way out of poverty.

Winglow Fashion Academy

In 2016 we decided to use our expertise in all elements of apparel manufacturing to establish the Winglow Fashion Academy. We developed a modular system so that students can acquire the necessary skills for a career in the garment industry in a shorter time than traditional apprenticeships make possible. We want to challenge the narrative that dressmaking is only for the uneducated in society, and offer ongoing training in an accessible way so that students can increase their skill base, regardless of their background.

Quality Guaranteed

Winglow has been the proud beneficiary of training programmes with the International Trade Commission, learning to improve our offering to our customers while enhancing the sustainability of our production processes. It has meant that we have been able to attain international quality standards, gaining us certification with the International Standard Organization. In recognition of our ethical business practices, we are currently in the process of becoming Fair Trade certified.

Wholesale

Not content with running our own fashion line, in 2019 we renewed our B2B offering, having enjoyed modest success back in the Nineties with our export line Pier 1. We now create lines for other designers who need a reliable production partner to sew their clothes and accessories. If you are interested in the wholesale options Winglow provides, please contact us here. We’d love to hear from you.

A Bright Future

Over the next five years, Winglow has a clear vision to expand both our production site and our Fashion Academy.

Our dedication to quality is not limited to products. The welfare of our staff is important to us and we aim to continuously improve facilities for them as part of our planned expansion, ensuring that we are compliant with the highest standards of health and safety.

We are keen to expand the Winglow Fashion Academy and deliver training to even more students from vulnerable backgrounds. To achieve that, we will be increasing our fundraising efforts in the community to ensure that our Needy Students Fund can continue to sponsor students as places become available, and provide them with employment opportunities as our factory site expands. Currently, we can offer one or two graduates placements for three to four months of on-the-job professional training, and we are keen to offer more.
